From the outset the MP4-12C was designed to be a pleasure to own as well as drive, with customer satisfaction being a key target from the very start.
To that end the 12C has been engineered specifically to be easy to repair and competitive to service.
Our innovative approach can be seen across a range of examples.
The advanced, Formula One™ style, on-board telediagnostics system can relay information about a potential problem direct to our service department, or even to McLaren headquarters in Woking, allowing us to have a solution ready at the roadside or when you arrive at our dealership. Despite its high performance, the M838T engine only requires servicing every 10,000 miles (15,000 km), and all the main service parts can be accessed from the base of the engine, reducing complexity and time. Because the unique carbon MonoCell is so stiff, all the exterior panels could be made of materials such as SMC and polypropylene; just as light, but much more affordable to replace.
Of course, we don’t expect to see your 12C in our workshop often. Reliability is as important to our road cars as it is to McLaren’s Formula One™ cars, and has also been designed-in from the outset. Intelligent engineering simply reduces the chance of a failure; the conductive aluminium runners set into the MonoCell are a good example, reducing the number of wires and connectors required by the car’s electronic architecture.
But when you do bring your car in we will strive to provide you with the same level of attention the Formula One™ cars get in a pit-stop; rapid, highly skilled, and with the right part ready and waiting. Because for any McLaren – road or race car – time spent in the garage is time wasted.
